Grading & Driveway Construction
Driveways and grading built to last in Ozarks weather.
A driveway you can drive on in February, after a 3-day rain, in a low-clearance car.
What's included
Scope, in plain language.
- Route layout and crown design
- Subgrade prep and compaction
- Geotextile fabric on soft spots
- 3" base rock + 2" surface gravel
- Culverts, ditches and side drainage
- Grading and crown to shed water
How we do it
No mystery. No surprises.
- 01
Walk the route
We find the high ground, the springs, and the spots that'll wash if you don't drain them. We talk about budget vs. forever.
- 02
Cut and shape
Box-blade or dozer to shape the subgrade with a 4–6% crown so water sheds.
- 03
Drain it
Culverts under low spots, side ditches where the slope demands it. Most driveway failures are drainage failures.
- 04
Lay the rock
Base rock first, compacted in lifts. Top with surface gravel — we use 1" minus or 3/4" clean depending on the application.
What it costs
$8 – $18 per linear foot for typical 12-ft wide gravel drives. New drives over 1,000 ft scale down per foot.
Every job is different. Below is what nudges your number up or down.
Drives the price up
- +Side-hill cuts and switchbacks
- +Multiple culverts
- +Hauling rock from far quarry
- +Soft subgrade requiring fabric and extra base
Drives it down
- −Existing driveway just needing a refresh
- −Local quarry within 10 miles
- −Straight runs with good drainage already
FAQ
Frequently asked
We typically use 3" minus base topped with 1" minus surface gravel from local quarries. For a smoother finish or a horse-friendly surface, we'll use 3/4" clean limestone instead.
