Can you fix an old leaking pond?

Yes. We diagnose where it's leaking (usually a poorly compacted dam or a missed core trench), drain it, fix the dam, and re-fill. Sometimes we have to re-line with imported clay.

How long until it fills?

Depends on your watershed and rain. Most ponds we build fill within one wet season (8–12 months).

Yes — most farm ponds we build are stocked with bass and bluegill. We'll dig 8–12 ft deep on at least one end so fish have summer refuge.

What about the dam height?

Dam height under 25 ft and impoundment under 50 acre-feet keeps you out of state dam-safety requirements. We design to that envelope unless you specifically want bigger.

Test the dirt
We dig test holes to confirm you have enough clay to hold water. If you don't, we'll tell you up front before you spend a nickel.

Design the dam
Dam height, top width, slopes (3:1 wet, 2:1 dry typical), spillway elevation, emergency overflow. We follow NRCS guidance.

Cut the core trench
The single most important step in pond building. We cut down to clay and key the dam in.

Build the dam in lifts
6" lifts, compacted with the dozer and a sheepsfoot. No shortcuts here.

Shape and seed
Bank slopes shaped, spillway armored, banks seeded for erosion control.
